The picture below shows the values which employees of the Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration uphold. Five values are considered especially important for the ICAA to perform its role, not only as it is defined by law, but as customers and interested parties are thought to expect from the system.

The values of the ICAA are: trustworthiness, good service, good communication, efficiency, and progress.

The values of the ICAA are: trustworthiness, good service, good communication, efficiency, and progress.

One of these five values is progress, which is perhaps not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about an institution where the core of the operations involves authorisations and oversight. However, the employees of the ICAA believe it is important to advance progress and to not let, for example, technical innovations and opportunities in aviation be hindered by the fact that international regulation changes can take a long time. Furthermore, the ICAA wants to adopt new methodology used in authorisations and assessments, even though no formal requirements are put forward in this regard. No value though is put above trustworthiness.

The following are examples of how employees of the ICAA uphold specific values.

    Trustworthiness
  • We work in a professional manner and grant authorisations only if all information is in place and provided that information is reliable and traceable.
  • We maintain equality and confidentiality towards customers. In the case of international authorisations, we always ensure that the latest international requirements are followed.
    • Exemptions are only granted following detailed inspection.

    Good service.
  • We give priority to inspections and assessments regarding authorisations, instruct applicants in how matters proceed , and make sure that authorisations never get held up by us.
  • We provide good service to our customers, are dependable and prepared to work outside usual work hours when necessary.
  • We place an emphasis on swiftness and flexibility, but never at the cost of professionalism.

    Good communication
  • We work together, show trust and tolerance, and provide good/correct information.
  • We promptly notify applicants if information is missing.
  • We strive to ensure that assessments are carried out in a determined but considerate manner.

    Efficiency
  • We are efficient and place an emphasis on in providing our customers with their money’s worth.
  • We make good use of resources and capital and do not exceed direct state contributions.

    Progress
  • We are open to innovations and take the initiative in searching for new ways to do our work.
  • We closely follow developments abroad to make sure that Icelandic causes are heard and communicate information about such matters in Iceland.
  • We look to provide employees with the latest training in their field of expertise.
  • We support innovation and seek to not let technical innovations and aviation opportunities be hindered by regulation requirements if safety is equally well or better ensured.
