Passengers may not bring the following items into the security restricted area and the passenger cabin of an aircraft (the list is not exhaustive):
a) Guns, firearms, and weapons.
Any item which can fire a projectile or seems to be able to fire a projectile or which can or seems to be able to cause damage, including:
- all firearms (pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, etc.),
- replica and imitation firearms,
- component parts of firearms (excluding telescopic sighting devices and sights),
- air pistols, rifles and pellet guns,
- signal flare pistols,
- starter pistols,
- toy guns of all types,
- ball bearing guns,
- industrial bolt and nail guns,
- cross bows,
- catapults,
- harpoon and spear guns,
- animal humane killers,
- stun or shocking devices such as cattle prods and ballistic conducted energy weapons (taser),
- lighters shaped like a firearm.
b) Pointed/edged weapons and sharp objects
Pointed or edged objects which can cause harm, including:
- axes and hatchets,
- crampons,
- arrows and darts,
- harpoons and spears,
- ice axes and ice picks,
- ice skates,
- lockable or flick knives with blades of any length,
- knives, including ceremonial knives, made of metal or any other material strong enough to be used as a potential weapon, (Icelandic authorities do not permit any pointed or edged knives, only round, blunt butter knives),
- meat cleavers,
- machetes,
- open razors and blades (excluding safety or disposable razors with blades enclosed in cartridge),
- sabres, swords and swordsticks,
- scalpels,
- scissors with blades more than 6 cm in length,
- (Icelandic authorities do not allow any pointed, edged scissors),
- ski and walking/hiking poles,
- throwing stars,
- tradesman's tools that have the potential to be used as pointed or edged weapons, including drills and drill bits, box cutters, utility knives, all saws, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, pliers, wrenches/spanners, blow torches
c) Blunt instruments.
Blunt instruments which can cause harm, including:
- baseball and softball bats,
- clubs or batons - rigid or flexible – including Billy clubs, blackjacks, night sticks and batons,
- cricket bats
- golf clubs,
- hockey sticks,
- lacrosse sticks,
- kayak and canoe paddles,
- skateboards,
- billiard, snooker and pool cues,
- fishing rods,
- martial arts equipment such as knuckle dusters, clubs, coshes, rice flails, num chucks, kubatons, kubasaunts
d) Explosives and flammable substances.
Any explosives or flammable substances which pose a risk to the health of passengers and crew or security/safety of aircraft or property, including:
- blasting caps,
- detonators and fuses
- explosives and explosive devices
- replica or imitation explosive material or devices
- mines and other explosive military stores
- grenades of all types
- gas and gas containers such as butane, propane, acetylene and oxygen in large volumes
- fireworks, flares in any form and other pyrotechnics, including party poppers and toy caps
- non-safety matches
- smoke generating canisters or cartridges,
- flammable liquids and fuels, such as petrol/gasoline, diesel, lighter fluid, alcohol, ethanol and methanol,
- aerosol spray paint
- turpentine and paint thinner
- alcoholic beverages exceeding 70 percent by volume
e) Chemical and toxic substances.
All chemicals and toxic substances which are dangerous to the health of passengers and crew or flight security/safety of aircraft and possessions, including:
- acids and alkalis such as spillable 'wet' batteries,
- corrosives or bleaching substances including mercury and chlorine,
- disabling or incapacitating sprays including mace, pepper spray, tear gas,
- radioactive material, including isotopes for medicinal purposes and as a commercial product, poison,
- infectious substances or biological hazardous material such as infected blood, bacteria and viruses,
- material capable of spontaneous ignition or combustion,
- fire extinguishers
f) Liquid.
- 1. Liquid, unless it is in a container which has a maximum capacity of 100 ml. or its equivalent and is stored in one transparent plastic bag that can be sealed (with a zip-lock or something comparable) and has a maximum capacity of 1 litre. The contents of the plastic bag shall fit easily, and the bag shall be completely closed. Liquid includes gel, pulp, cream, mix, contents of pressurised containers, such as toothpaste, hair gel, beverages, soup, syrup, perfume, shaving cream, sprays, and substances of comparable density.
- 2. It is permissible to make an exemption from item 1 in section f, provided that liquid is:
- i) for use on the trip and is necessary for medical purposes or a special diet, including baby food. If required, a passenger shall prove what is the content of the exempted liquid;
or
- ii) acquired airside past the location where boarding pass check is performed, in stores which operate according to approved aviation security measures as part of the aviation security programme of the aerodrome in question, and on the condition that the liquid is packed in a sealed bag and that satisfactory proof is presented that the liquid was purchased in the respective aerodrome on the same day; or
- iii) acquired in the security restricted area in stores which operate according to approved aviation security measures as part of the aviation security programme of the respective aerodrome, or
- iv) acquired in an aerodrome within states of the European Union and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), on the condition that the liquid is packed in a sealed bag and that satisfactory proof is presented that the liquid was purchased within the security restricted area of the respective aerodrome on the same day; or
- v) acquired on board an aircraft operated by an air operator within the European Union and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), on the condition that the liquid is packed in a sealed bag and that satisfactory proof is presented that the liquid was purchased on board the aircraft on the same day.
g) Hand baggage.
A unit of hand baggage larger than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm. Maximum measurements include handles, straps, pockets, wheels, or other protruding parts of baggage, including the content of a bag. It is permissible to exempt oversized baggage which contains an item or items which are too large to fit within the maximum measurements of a unit of hand baggage and are valuable or sensitive. Such hand baggage shall be presented for approval at check-in and at the security gate for inspection. Oversized baggage shall be screened, at least by manual search.
